Does Drinking Water Clear Acne?
By ZO® Skin Health
There are numerous skincare myths floating around in everyday conversation and online, and it can be difficult to pinpoint which is truth and which is fiction. One of those messages that surfaces often, especially by those that experience breakouts on a regular basis, is “does drinking water clear acne?” or “how much water should I drink to clear acne?”
Water is an essential part of life. Staying hydrated is part of general health and it is important to your body to conduct basic functions. Dehydration can lead to numerous concerns, such as dizziness, headaches, and reduced blood flow. Since water is so important to the body on a global scale, it only makes sense that daily hydration is important to skin health. It is recommended by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies for women to get about 91 oz of water daily, a total from all food and beverage intake. This total also depends on height, weight and other factors like activity level.
Staying hydrated, however, is not the holy grail cure for clearing congested pores. There is no statistical evidence to show that drinking water can clear your skin. It does ensure that all the cells in the body are properly hydrated, especially skin cells, which can improve skin function. It is no wonder why water is so important. The human body is made up of 55-60% of water. Your daily water intake does benefit the skin, but in such specific ways as clearing breakouts.
Fortunately, there are other ways to achieve blemish-free skin. To improve your complexion, consider the following tips:
Choose the right cleanser for oily skin types. Exfoliating Cleanser removes surface oil + other impurities that can clog pores. Use with the rest of your GSR ® regimen for optimal results.
Exfoliation is key. Remove dead skin cells + other skin-clogging debris with the right exfoliator. For both chemical + physical exfoliation benefits on the face or and on the body, award-winning Dual-Action Scrub minimizes breakouts while leaving skin smooth to the touch.
Incorporate salicylic acid into your regimen. Incorporating this powerhouse ingredient can benefit breakout-prone skin. Oil Control Pads not only mattify skin but can also improve skin clarity and the appearance post-blemish marks.
Don’t forget to hydrate (your skin!) Sometimes the skin needs a hydration boost from the right skincare product. A lightweight hydrator is recommended for oily and sensitized skin types. Renewal Crème is clinically proven to improve the appearance of stressed skin. Its weightless formulation hydrates without feeling heavy and can minimize the signs of redness and supports a more uniform + healthy complexion.
