Frequently Asked Questions

What do Oil Control Pads do?

ZO® Oil Control Pads Acne Treatment is a maximum-strength acne prevention toner that helps reduce the formation of blemishes, minimizes excess surface oil, and decongests pores. Glycolic and mandelic acid help reduce the appearance of post-blemish marks and visible redness while improving skin texture. Urea maintains hydration balance, and a botanical extract blend provides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support so skin is not left dry or irritated after use.

What ingredients are in Oil Control Pads?

ZO® Oil Control Pads Acne Treatment use a triple-acid formula: salicylic acid (2%) as the active OTC drug ingredient to chemically exfoliate pore-clogging dead skin cells; plus mandelic acid and glycolic acid to help reduce the appearance of post-blemish marks and visible redness while improving skin texture. Rosa canina fruit extract and hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) extract target excess sebum and minimize the appearance of pores. Urea restores and maintains hydration, and menthyl lactate provides a cooling sensation to soothe skin irritation after use. The 100% plant-based viscose pad material provides additional gentle smoothing benefits.

How do I use Oil Control Pads?

Clean skin thoroughly, then apply the pad to the entire affected area in a thin layer, one to three times daily. Because excessive drying of the skin may occur, start with one application daily and gradually increase to two or three times daily if needed. If dryness or peeling occurs, reduce to once a day or every other day.

Do I need to wear sunscreen while using Oil Control Pads?

Yes. ZO® Oil Control Pads Acne Treatment contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterward.

Why did the Oil Control Pads material change?

As part of ZO®'s ongoing commitment to sustainability, Oil Control Pads Acne Treatment transitioned to a new pad material, replacing microplastic particles with a 100% plant-based alternative. Expect a new feel upon use, but the proven acid formula remains unchanged.

How often can I use Oil Control Pads?

One to three times daily is the recommended frequency range. Because excessive drying may occur, most people begin with once daily and build up gradually based on how their skin responds. Twice daily (AM and PM) is appropriate for skin that has acclimated to the formula. Three times daily should only be used as directed by your physician. If dryness or peeling becomes bothersome at any frequency, reduce to once a day or every other day until skin adjusts.
